We obtained our first Komondor in 1988. Alan & I were stationed in Germany when
we decided to get a guard dog. I have had Siberian Huskies since 1976, and we
brought two over to Germany with us. While Siberians are great companions, they are
not watch/guard dogs.
I contacted the Komondor Club of America in 1986 to find a reputable breeder in
Germany. It was then I was put in touch with Brigitte Jonckers in Belgium. Her kennel
name is, Gyozedelmes. Brigitte interviewed us in the spring of 1987 and after nearly a
years wait, we got our Maya Gyozedelmes. Maya died tragically in
an accident after we returned to the States in 1989. Brigitte was extremely kind and
understanding and in December 1989 she shipped us North-Asta Gyozedelmes and
Eos De La Foret D'Emeraudes. Asta was our first Komondor Champion who also went
on to earn his Obedience Companion Dog title and to date he has sired 8 American
Champions and has earned a ROM (Register of Merit) suffix. Eos was our second
Champion, but had hip dysplasia and was never bred.
In 1994 Lydia Postell used Asta on her bitch, Hercegvaros-Napsuger. From that litter
we took Kyllburg's Bure of Gazember back as the stud fee. Bure finished rather quickly
and has sired 5 Champions, see below for some of his offsprings' wins. Bure has
earned his ROM March 2005. In August 2005, at the age of 10 1/2 years old was the
first Komondor to earn a Rally Novice Title. We believe he is also the oldest Komondor
to earn an obedience title. Bure is also a two time KCA Stud Dog Winner. We lost Bure
Sep 11, 2008 after he suffered a stroke. We loved him!
In 1998 we acquired our foundation bitch from the renowned Lajosmegyi Komondor
Kennel in Washington state. She was, Ch. Lajosmegy's Big Mama Thornton, ROM aka,
Abby. She has produced 7 Champions and 11 OFA cleared offspring from three litters.
Her first litter she was bred to Asta. Her 2nd & 3rd litters she was bred to Bure. Abby
is the dam of the 2002 Pedigree Award Winner, 2000 KCA Winner's Dog( WD)/Best of
Winners (BOW), 2002 KCA Winner's Bitch (WB)/BOW, 2003 KCA WD/BOW & Best in
Sweepstakes, Best of Opposite (BOS), 2004 KCA BOS & Award of Merit (AoM), 2005
KCA AoM & WD, 2007 #1 Komondor & #1 Komondor Bitch, & 2007 KCA AoM; 2008
KCA BOB & BOS!! She is also a two time KCA Brood Bitch Winner. Abby did more for
us and the Komondor breed then we could ever imagine!! We owe much to Pat Turner
and Anna Quigley for entrusting her to us.
